March the 21st will see the Townsville Cruising Yacht Club (TCYC) host its 41st annual Easter Blue Water Classic. The race starts 1200 midday Easter Friday (21st March) in Cleveland Bay, Townsville. The total race distance is 98.8 nautical miles passing inshore of Magnetic Island and Havannah Island before heading offshore around Palm, Pelorus and Hinchinbrook Islands then finishing at Port Hinchinbrook.
Of course the weekend isn’t all about racing, many of the club boats will cruise their way up the coast no doubt making a party of every night at sea. There will also be onshore events taking place, Saturday afternoon will play host to the crab race competition and a Skippers and Sponsors meet and greet, before progressing to the traditional prize giving ceremony.
Easter Sunday will see the introduction of a special two leg Port to Resort race to Hinchinbrook Island Wilderness Lodge on the Northern tip of Hinchinbrook Island. Upon reaching the destination crews will be welcome to break for lunch at the island resort before restarting the second leg back to Port Hinchinbrook Marina.
Registration
Yachts can register at the Townsville Motor Boat and Yacht Club Office or Online. Yachts registering at the office will need to submit copies of the Race Nomination Form and Crew List. Registrations close Wednesday 12th of March 2008.
Accommodation
Competitors must book accommodation for the event directly with Port Hinchinbrook Resort. Rooms are limited and booking out fast so get in quick.
